Barclays Premier League Trophy comes to 2015 Vaisakhi Tournament
This year, the Vaisakhi Tournament will have a VERY SPECIAL guest! The Barcalys Premier League Trophy, yes the actual trophy, will be coming to our event for everyone to see. This unique opportunity to stand next to the greatest league trophy in the world, and to have your photo taken with it, is surely not to be missed!
The current Premier League trophy was created by Royal Jewellers Asprey of London. It consists of a trophy with a golden crown and a malachite plinth base. The plinth weighs 33 pounds (15 kg) and the trophy weighs 22 pounds (10.0 kg). The trophy and plinth are 76 cm (30 in) tall, 43 cm (17 in) wide and 25 cm (9.8 in) deep.
Its main body is solid sterling silver and silver gilt, while its plinth is made of malachite, a semi-precious stone. The plinth has a silver band around its circumference, upon which the names of the title-winning clubs are listed. Malachite's green colour is also representative of the green field of play. The design of the trophy is based on the heraldry of Three Lions that is associated with English football. Two of the lions are found above the handles on either side of the trophy – the third is symbolised by the captain of the title winning team as he raises the trophy, and its gold crown, above his head at the end of the season.
The Barclays Premier League Trophy has been held aloft by some of the greatest players to ever grace the Premier League since its birth in 1992. Legends such as Thierry Henry, Peter Schmeichel, Alan Shearer and Didier Drogba have all had the honour of lifting this great trophy. It has been won only by 5 clubs in the 23 year history of the Premier League, with Manchester United being the most successful with 13 winning titles.
The Premier League holds two variations of the trophy; the genuine one and a spare replica in case there are two teams that could win the league on the final day. However, there is a special gold version of the trophy which was commissioned for Arsenal FC to commerate their unbelievable 'Invincible' season where they did not lose a single game. Unfortunately, the SSUK budget will not stretch to a gold version if your team goes unbeaten through the whole tournament!
So please come along, as a spectator, player or volunteer to take this unique and momentous opportunity to see the BARCLAYS PREMIER LEAGUE TROPHY!
